Thongsbridge vs Micklehurst

On a Thongsbridge pitch left with rain over the weekend, many people would think this game would have been a no result.

Thongsbridge captain Cameron Sanderson lost the toss and the Micklehurst captain (who were playing with 10 men) put Thongsbridge into bat. So the Thongsbridge opening batsmen Max Berry and Cameron Sanderson himself went out to bat on a wicket that looked a nightmare, for the batsmen to get there team off to a good start and they did just that as Cameron retired after 10 overs with 28 to his name. Number 3 batsmen Richard Marshall came into join Max at the crease and he was soon on his way to a quick retirement as he hit three 4s in no time at all until he was eventually bowled for 15.

In at number 4 came Max`s brother Leo Berry to join him at the crease but soon after that Max retired on 28 with a cut shot that went for 4. In at 5 came Jack Atkinson who didn’t last long as he was very unluckily out when the ball hit him on the pad and onto the stump for just 8, Thongsbridge only losing 2 wickets for 96 with 2 overs to spare.

In at number 6 came Billy Prady to try and push the score on to around 110 with Leo as they did that nicely by picking there 1s and 2s up very easily as Leo and Billy were the not out batsmen with Leo not out on 14 and Billy with 3 and Thongsbridge finished off with a score of 108 to defend.

The Micklehurst openers came out to chase a score of 109 to win the match and they got off to quite a good start as they got 4 off the 1st over of there innings off the bowling of Cameron Sanderson.

Thongsbridge made the 1st bowling change in the 3rd over as Tom Parr replaced Cameron Sanderson, Tom made a bad start with a no ball and 2 wides in his 1st over, but in his 2nd he made the breakthrough bowling the Micklehurst opener and all he could do is look at his off stump that was half way back Tom finished with bowling figures of 1-5. The second wicket was claimed by Jack Sewell as the Micklehurst batsman gave an easy catch straight into Jack Atkinsons hands as he went for just 2, Sewell finished with bowling figures of 1-4.

Micklehurst now 18-2 were struggling and it didn’t get much better when Leo Berry came on to bowl his 1st over, it didn’t start off well when he bowled a wide 1st ball but then Leo bowled one of the Micklehurst batsman out for just 9, then the new batsman who came in at number 5 went straight back to the pavilion 1st ball with a golden duck next to his name as Leo was now on a hat-trick but the new batsman survived the hat-trick ball, it was Leos only over and he finished with figures of 2-3 well bowled Leo, and soon after that Billy Prady picked up a wicket when the batsman edged straight to wicket-keeper Richard Marshall for 8.

The final wicket Thongsbridge got came on the last ball of the innings when Jack Atkinson came back on to bowl and claimed a wicket when the batsman hit it straight to Edward Heald who was never going to drop it for just 1 and Jack finished with figures of 1-3.

In the end Thongsbridge won the game comfortably by 51 runs but they bowled 18 extras and they didn’t look the best in the field at times and if Thongsbridge are going to compete against the teams at the top in the future then they must cut out them extras, but a wins a win and its another 3 points on the board with 3 games to go.
