Season 2008 - Thongsbridge U/13 Cricket Report ( Week 7)
Opposition: Crigglestone
Game: League
Date: Sunday 15 June 2008
Venue: Crigglestone
Weather: Cloudy with risk of rain
Toss won by: Crigglestone
Who batted first: Thongsbridge
Summary of team batting first innings:
Put into bat again, Thongsbridge opened with the Leo Berry and Gabriel Cullaigh pairing. We lost an early wicket as Gabriel was bowled on the forth ball of the innings without scoring. Luke Beaumont came in at number 3. Leo again produced a captains performance hitting another retiring score of 28. The outfield was very slow and scoring runs wasn’t at all easy. Luke was bowled for 7, David Wagstaff was out caught for 11 and Ophelia Donlon caught and bowled for 1. Alex James came in at number 6 and scored a very powerful 25 not out, reaching the retiring score off the last ball of the innings. The innings closed on 96 for 6, slightly short of the three figure target we had set ourselves.
Final innings score; 96 for 6
Summary of team batting second innings:
Crigglestone were bottom of the league coming into this game and may have sensed a first victory with a target of 5 an over. They were soon up against it with David Wagstaff bowling their opening batsman on the last ball of the first over. Alex James put the home side under further pressure taking two wickets (both clean bowled) in the fourth over. Thongsbridge were reduced to 10 players in the eighth over - one player, who shall remain nameless was desperate to leave the field due to drinking too much orange juice between innings. One player short didn’t affect the performance as Edward Heald picked up the first of his two wickets. The highlight of our fielding was two stunning catches taken by David Wallwork, the first a one handed diving catch to his right and the second a low diving catch at short mid off. Zac Robinson picked up a wicket bowling their top scorer for 11. Thomas Earnshaw and Alex McAndrew also did really well with the ball taking two wickets each to dust off the Crigglestone lower order.
Final innings score; 31 all out
Result: Thongsbridge won
Match Summary:
A match that in the end turned out to be a comfortable win. Batting on a pitch of variable bounce and on a ground with a slow outfield made scoring runs difficult. 96 turned out to be a very good score and a target that was way beyond the Crigglestone team. A good display with bat, ball and in the field from everyone – very well played.
