Summary of team batting firsts innings:

Thurstonland struggled against some very good bowling from Thongsbridge, finding it very hard to score early on. Andrew Cuthill took the first wicket in his first over of the match, with the second wicket falling to Thomas Webster in his first over. Thongsbridge then had to wait several overs before the next wickets came, although few runs were conceded during this spell due to some good defensive batting by Thurstonland. Lewis Kenworthy and Fabian Cullaigh took the next two wickets. Ben Bullas was Thurstonlands top scorer with 17 runs late on with some good strokes; however he was clean bowled by Steven Asquith who took 3 wickets in just one over – the third one being a caught & bowled to finish with figures of 3-7 from 3 overs. In the final over Jack Wilson took the last of 8 wickets, clean bowling Joe Stephenson.

Final innings score;          243-8     (179 net score)

Summary of team batting second innings:

Tommy Woodhead and Steven Asquith (10) opened the batting with a solid partnership of 15 runs without losing a wicket, including 2 boundaries from Steven. Andrew Cuthill (15) and Lewis Kentworthy (17) added a further 35 runs in an excellent partnership for the second wicket. Heather Crossley was the top scorer for Thongsbridge – with 19 runs including 4 crunching boundaries. As the light faded rapidly Thurstonland took four wickets as it became more difficult to see the ball, however Ben Lindley (6) and Fabian Cullaigh (6) also scored useful runs down the order. For the third game running Josh Ratcliffe (2) batted very well and has yet to lose his wicket.

Final innings score;              300-4    (268 net score)

Result:                                  Won by 89 runs

Match Summary:

It was a great all-round team effort. A combination of consistent accurate bowling, solid batting and quick fielding resulted in a well deserved victory for Thongsbridge. In the third round Thongsbridge will be at home to either Golcar or Marsden, both of whom we play in the league in the next 2-3 weeks.
