Summary of team batting firsts innings:
Thongsbridge had a number of their leading run scorers and wicker takers away on holiday, nevertheless they were still able to field a very competitive team against a strong Delph team who were pushing to win the league. Lewis Kenworthy was ‘11th man’ and he eventually played the whole game for Delph and Dobcross as they were a player short.
Jasper Donlon (6) and Liam Johnson (0) added 14 excellent runs for the first wicket with some very good running between the wickets. Tommy Woodhead, today’s captain top scored with 12 and along with Josh Ratcliffe they too added another 14 runs for the second wicket. Lewis Kenworthy grabbed Delph’s first wicket when he clean bowled Heather Crossley. Accurate bowling throughout restricted Thongsbridge to 248-3, however there were some good strokes played and some encouraging signs with the running between the wickets. Fabian Cullaigh batted well at the end, scoring 5 with some good pushed singles.
Final innings score; 248-3 (224 net score)
Summary of team batting second innings:
Ben Lindley continued his fine recent bowling by taking a smart caught and bowled in the second over of the game. Tidy bowling and keen fielding kept the Delph score in check, things got better when Connor Garlick also held a good catch off his own bowling, this was good reward for all the practice he has put in. Tommy Woodhead bowled very well with 3 overs and 3 maidens and 1 wicket in his fine spell. After Ben had returned to take another wicket it was very close at 248-4 (216) with 5 overs to go. Some good late order hitting, including 14 not out from Lewis saw Delph home by 24 runs and possible to the league title.
Final innings score; 280-4 (248 net score)
Result: Delph & Dobcross won by 24 runs
Match Summary:
Great team effort by Thongsbridge who pushed Delph all the way and the margin of defeat was much smaller than it was earlier in the season. A great all round effort by the team.
