Who batted first:                 Broad Oak

Summary of team batting firsts innings:

Thongsbridge worked hard to limit Broad Oak’s score in a good bowling performance. Despite this Beaumont and Harrison managed to score runs freely for the visitors which was ultimately to prove the difference between the 2 teams.

Tommy Woodhead opened the bowling with a good spell, which included a wicket maiden. Andrew Cuthill bowled both openers middle stump in his first over. Broad Oak found it impossible to score runs against Shaun Burrows, who bowled 2 excellent maiden overs. Steven Asquith also put in a good performance, which included 2 maidens, a caught and bowled and a spectacular stop on the boundary. A special mention must go to Heather Crossley for a faultless performance behind the stumps.

Final innings score;         269-4   (237 net score)

Summary of team batting second innings:

Broad Oak bowled quickly and accurately. Thongsbridge lost 3 early wickets and found it difficult to recover. After that the team defended well but couldn’t score quickly enough.  Lewis Kenworthy and Josh Ratcliffe batted well together as the second pair. Thomas Webster and Heather Crossley continued their good form with the highest partnership.  The two best shots of the innings were a straight drive from Heather and nicely controlled hook from Andrew.  John Hodgson and Jack Wilson pushed hard for runs at the close but Jack was unfortunately run out as the required run rate rose beyond Thongsbridge’s reach.

Final innings score;          235-4     (203 net score)

Result:                                  Broad Oak won by 34 runs

Match Summary:                Overall a good performance by Thongsbridge against a good team. Once again the bowling and fielding was of a high standard and only the 2 good individual scores by Broad Oak players were the difference between the teams.
