Summary of team batting firsts innings:
Armitage Bridge began cautiously against an accurate Thongsbridge bowling attack and it was Connor Garlick who took the first wicket in the 8th over when Stephen Asquith took an excellent overhead catch at gully. Ben Lindley then clean bowled 2 batsmen in the same over and Tommy Woodhead chipped in with the first of his 2 wickets. At the mid-way point in their innings Arrmitage Bridge were 232-4 (net score 200). Some aggressive batting saw the score start to mount however all the bowlers stuck to their task and aided by some fine out fielding Thongsbridge managed to keep the score in check. Stephen Asquith took another catch as well as a caught and bowled off his own bowling. Tommy Woodhead, carrying a leg injury returned to take another wicket. Heather Crossley kept wicket very well and conceded no byes. All the players making their debuts performed well with special mention for Josh Ratcliffe who bowled and fielded very well.
Final innings score; 286-6 (238 net score)
Summary of team batting second innings:
Thongsbridge’s innings got off to the worst possible start with first Tommy Woodhead being caught first ball followed by both openers managing to run themselves out. From a desperate position Tommy and Stephen Asquith scored 11 and 10 respectively to put Thongsbridge back in the game. Andrew Cuthill and Connor Garlick continued the good work with Andrew playing some fine shots in his 23. Heather and Josh built a solid partnership which with 8 overs remaining when they left the crease found Thongsbridge wanting a further 12 runs for victory. Although another 4 wickets fell, Ben Lindley (9 not out) and Jack Wilson (15 not out) took Thongsbridge agonisingly close to victory. Ultimately Thongsbridge fell just 5 runs short in a thrilling game which went down to the final 3 balls of the game.
Final innings score; 305-9 (233 net score)
Result: Armitage Bridge won by 5 runs
Match Summary: A great advert for junior cricket with both teams playing some really good cricket. Encouraging signs for Thongsbridge as everyone contributed to a great team effort.
