Who batted first:                 Thongsbridge invited to bat first

Summary of team batting firsts innings:

Tommy Woodhead (10) and Stephen Asquith (5) opened the batting and did well against the new ball. They ran very well between the wickets taking several well judged singles.

Wickets fell at regular intervals during the 20 over innings however runs were steadily accumulated. John Hodgson playing with an injured hand scored 4 whilst the highlight of the innings was a very useful last pair stand of Jack Wilson and Liam Johnson. Although badly dropped he took his ‘life’ and scored an excellent 18 not out with the highlight being a fine cover drive for 4.

Final innings score;          277-12 (181 net score)

Summary of team batting second innings:

Tommy Woodhead opened the bowling and took a wicket with his first ball. Andrew Cuthill opened at the other end and he took a wicket with the second and third balls of his first over. A great start. Paddock however dug in and slowly started to score runs against a very keen bowling attack, well supported by some excellent fielding. Stephen Asquith took a wicket in his first over as well as holding a stunning catch at backward point shortly afterwards.

A late flourish with the bat by Paddock from over 13 onwards put them in the lead however Andew Cuthill, team captain, brought himself back on to ball and again took 2 wickets in 2 balls including a tremendous ‘caught and bowled’. Despite another late strike by Tommy Woodhead Paddock won by 20 runs.

Final innings score;          265-8 (201 net score)

Result:                                  Paddock won by 20 runs

Match Summary:                Excellent effort for the first game of the season.                                        Bowling and fielding looked very sharp and there                                       were encouraging signs from the batting too.                                                             Some good individual performances but the team                                               played well together and tried hard throughout.
